So I think my graphic novel that I've been working on is turning into a novella. We'll see how it goes... |

So I borrowed The Road by Cormac McCarthy from my mom Friday night and finished it yesterday afternoon. I don't think I have ever read anything more beautifully haunting. The book is written without chapters and in a weird style of run-on prose and sentence fragments. It's the story of a father and son traveling across the country on foot after the apocalypse.
Here's a particular passage, I really like:
And the dreams so rich in color. How else would death call you? Waking in the cold dawn it all turned to ash instantly. Like certain ancient frescoes entombed for centuries suddenly exposed to the day.
This one too...
On the road there are no godspoke men. They are gone and I am left and they have taken with them the world. Query: How does the never to be differ from the never was?
I love this novel so, much I ran out today to pick up another book by the author. I'm about 50 pages deep in that one and it's just as amazing.
Kristen and I are still on the hunt for a house. The last one we put in an offer for didn't pan out, which was a real bummer since it was right in the middle of Great Bridge. :( We're still on the look out, so if anyone finds a 3 bedroom single family house under 200K in Chesapeake or Virginia Beach, holla at me!
I picked up No More Heroes for the Wii today. I have not yet had a chance to play it, but it looks awesome. I have however started to play Portal on X-Box. It's as equally frustrating as it is entertaining.
I'm still working on the graphic novel. Right now it's somewhere between 60-70 comic book pages after I go through and write in the panel breakdowns. It's a little over 30 pages of straight dialog and some scene direction. I want to finish the whole project, art and all, by the end of the year. I sucked at meeting my own personal deadline of finishing the script by the end of 2007. :(Current Mood: chill Current Music: the helio sequence- everyone knows everyone

Have you ever heard about something that sounded so ridiculous that you just forgot about it? This is one of those things...
A few months back I heard the Wachowski Bros. were writing and directing a love action version of Speed Racer, but I thought the notion was so dumb that I ignored it.
I don't know how I feel about this. Part of me hates them for it, but I still want to see it...

KRISTEN IS HOME! It felt so amazing to be back in bed with her last night. I slept like champ.
So...after the flop that the Coheed show was, I think I'm only going to attend Hip-hop shows. Sage, Atmosphere, and Ice Cube put on some of the best performances I've ever seen. They just gave off awesome vibes and everyone had fun. It's way better than getting smushed by a bunch of 15 year old kids jumping up and down like retards. I'm debating if I want to go see Wu-Tang...tickets are 30 bucks, which is more money than I paid to see all three of the other hip-hop shows I've attended put together.
Any way...here are the lyrics to my favorite Sage Francis song. Enjoy!
There once was a song called "Arrest The President." Contemporary music, a hit with the kids, it was a top ten. I wasn't pop then, so I missed the bus a bit, But politics was on everybody's hot this summer list. The cool kids were all rocking votes, I shit you not, I was pistol whippin' cops for hip hop. [Booyea!]
On my soap box yelling into megaphones. Killing hard rocks using carcasses as stepping stones. Had to promise that I'd stop holding my marches The day that Chris Columbus got crucified on golden arches. My pedestal was too tall to climb off, In fact that's the reason for the high horse. And from up here I see Marines and Hummers on a conquest; Underdogs with wonderbras in a push-up contest, All for the sake of military recruitment. It felt like Kent State the way they targeted the students, I galloped off whistling "Ohio." The rest of them, stuck doing stand up at a cricket convention. What would they die for? (repeat) Is it the same machine that leaves the quality of life poor? An abominable colony of cyborgs? Clogging up the property that I bought with eyesores?
That clever ad campaign ain't worth The time taken from minimum wage labor; I don't care how half-naked or fake she looks, She smells like dirty cash and aged paper books. What would she die for? Slow down Gandhi, you're killin' em Slow down Gandhi, you're killin' em.
Now it's whistle blower vs. the pistol holder; Case dismissed, they'll lock you up and throw away the key witness. Justice is the whim of a judge, check his chest density, It leaves much room for error, and the rest left to destiny. The West Memphis 3 lost paradise, It's death penalty vs. suicidal tendencies. All I wanted was a fucking Pepsi. Institution. Making you think you're crazy is a billion dollar industry. If they could sell sanity in a bottle They'd be charging for compressed air, And marketing healthcare. They demonize welfare, Middle class eliminated, Rich get richer til the poor get educated.
But some of y'all still haven’t grown into your face, And your face doesn't quite match your head. And I'm waiting for a brain to fill the dead space that's left, You're all, "Give me ethnicity or give me dreads." Trustafundian rebel without a cause for alarm, Cause when push turns to shove You jump into your forefathers arms. He's a banker, you're part of the system, Off go the dreadlocks in comes the income. The briefcase (the freebase) The sickness (the symptom) When the cameras start rollin' stay the fuck outta the picture pilgrim! The briefcase (the freebase) The sickness (the symptoms) When the cameras start rollin'... Slow down Gandhi, you're killin' em.
Mr. Save The World, spare us the details, Save the females from losing interest. And Miss Save The Universe, You're a damsel in distress, Tied down to a track of isolated incidents. Generalize my disease, I need a taste of what it's like. Living off the fat of kings, I play the scab at your hunger strike. Slow down Gandhi, you're killin'em.
One love, one life, one too many victims. Republicrat, Democran, one party system. Media goes in a frenzy, They're stripped of their credentials. Presidential candidates can't debate over this instrumental. Let 'em freestyle, winner takes all, When the music’s dead, I'll have Ted Nugent’s head hangin' on my wall. Kill one of ours, we'll kill one of yours. With some friendly fire, that’s a funny term, like civil war.
Six in the morning, police at my crib. Now my nights consist of two toothpicks and eyelids. The crucifix and vitamins, music that is pirated. New flavored food made of mutated hybrids. Uh, they tell me that it's not that bad. It fucks you up good, but its not that bad. They hold on to these tales till it's the dog that wags. God save us all if he lets the cat out the bag.
Who's the one to blame for this strain in my vocal chords? Who can pen a hateful threat but can't hold a sword? It's the same who complain about the global war, But can't overthrow the local joker that they voted for.
They call the shots (but they're not in the line of fire). I call the cops (but they're breakin the line of duty). Lets call a stop to the abuse of authority. The truth keeps callin' me, and I'ma live to tell the story.
So look for truth, quit seeking forgiveness. You need to cut the noose, but you don't believe in scissors. You support the troops by wearing yellow ribbons? Just bring home my motherfuckin' brothers and sisters.
Cause they don't call the shots (but they're in the line of fire). I'd like to call the cops (but they're breakin' the line of duty). It's time to call a stop (To the abuse of authority). The truth keeps calling me And I'ma live to tell the story. |

| » Thanksgiving weekend, movies, and Coheed |
The best part of the whole 9 to 5 thing is not having to work during the holiday season. At my job, this time of the year is the slowest, and I couldn't make me happier. Not having a Black Friday off 5 or 6 years in a row is for the fucking birds...
Wednesday I left work early and was able to throw down on some Rock Band (which is hands down the coolest video game ever) before Kristen and I had to go pick up my sister to get her bride's maid's dress. However, once we got out to David's Bridal, we found that they closed early. Disappointed, we headed over to Game Stop and met up with Krissy's Boyfriend, A.J., then had dinner with the two of them.
Kristen and I headed home for a bit, then caught the late show of The Mist, which I found to be rather awesome, with Missy.
Thanksgiving Day Kristen and I woke up pretty early and took a nice little bike ride together since the gym was closed.
We headed to Kristen's grandma's house 1:30 and ate, then went over to my Aunt Cindy's around 4. After making our runs, we went back home and watched the Contract with John Cusack. I don't know if it was any good. I was too fucking drunk to pay attention.
Black Friday We decided to get up early at 5 in the morning and try to score a Wii...bad idea. When I woke up, my head was fucking killing me from all the wine I consumed the day before. We drove around a bit and saw that every Game Stop already had a line that was way too fucking long. We came back home, discouraged and slept for another 6 hours.
When we got up the second time, we went to the gym, grabbed some lunch, then headed over to Steve and Allie's to hang out. That night we went to see No Country For Old Men.
Okay, if you are a Coen Bros. fan, you must see this movie. I think it is their best work...ever.
Yesterday</> Kristen, Steve and I went to the Coheed & Cambria show last night. It was a disaster. Before Coheed even took the stage, the entire crowd started to surge everywhere. Several of us in the crowd fell down onto a bed of people. Once the band started playing, it only took about three songs in to know that I wanted the hell out. I grabbed Kristen and we pushed our way through the crowd. I have never viciously shoved people out of my way at a concert before, but last night, the people in the crowd weren't individuals to me, just obstacles.
We lost Steve before the madness ensued, but caught up with him after a few songs. Some huge guy fell on him in the pit and crushed his leg. He walked with a limp the rest of the night. The three of us later took a vote and decided to leave early...Kristen and I got crushed..Steve hurt his leg...it just wasn't a good night. Not to mention, Coheed sounded like shit.
This Morning I'm sitting in my underwear, waiting for Kristen to wake up. She and Athena are all curled up in bed. I was thinking about joining them, but I'm awake.

Sage Francis was amazing!
Kristen and I got to the Norva early, before any one took the stage. The the venue was pretty much dead accept for a few people hanging out by the merch table by the bathrooms, where a large, balding man with a beard was selling Sage Francis shirts and cd's. After a moment of staring at the guy I realized that it was Sage himself. I walked over to him, introduced myself and has a 10 minute long conversation with him.
He was very down to earth, sincere and seemed to truly appreciate his fans.
After he played his set, I shook his hand and told him how awesome his show was and he signed my ticket "Fuck Sage Francis."
I think it was one of the coolest shows I've ever been to. Maybe due to the fact that I got to meet and shoot the shit with the guy I payed money to see. For the first time, in a long time, I feel like I truly got my money's worth out of my concert ticket.

I'm at work for the next twenty minutes, and I'm super antsy because the whole crew and I are going to go see Sage Francis at the Norva tonight. It should be an awesome show. If he's half as good as Atmosphere was, then I'm in for a treat. :)

| » Fuck November... |
No, seriously: FUCK NOVEMBER. This month has sucked ass ever since it started. Dealing with my Dad being in the hospital for heart problems kind of kicked it all off, and work being stressful as all fuck didn't help... Now this morning, I get in a car wreck...
I can't wait for the end of February when I get to just sit on the beach with my beautiful wife and drink little fruity drinks and watch the sun set in Jamaica.
I am forever in debt to my wife. She has been the backbone of our relationship for the past couple of weeks while dealing with her own stress from work, bills, etc. I couldn't have asked for a stronger, more wonderful woman to be my other (or better) half.

After browsing through Doug TenNapel's library on amazon.com, I feel like I'm 12 years old again getting excited about playing Earthworm Jim. It's been over 10 years since I've seen his work and now that I've found out TenNapel has several graphic novels in print, I want to drain all the moeny in the bank...next paycheck that is.
In related news, Rob Schrab is finishing the cult classic underground comic Scud: The Disposable Assassin next year and publishing an omnibus with the complete series through Image.
Sorry...I've had a couple of glasses of wine and half a dark chocolate bar that I blame for the nerdiness.
Anyways...I'm going to pour another glass before Heroes.
Sylar rules...in a horrible sort of way. :)

| » A good weekend thus far |
-Last night Kristen, Missy and I watched Planet Terror. I think I enjoy Robert Rodriguez's work more than Tarantino's. There's an element of fun and humor in his films that brings out the 12 year old kid me.
-I think I have finally kicked the cold I've been fighting for the past week and a half, but now poor Kristen has it. :( I told her I should have been quarantined, but she said she couldn't go a day without kissing me. :) She is truly the most amazing woman on earth, what with sacrificing her health just to get a kiss from a C.H.U.D. like me.
-I got a bootlegged copy of the new Coheed album... It is fucking amazing. I think "Gravemakers & Gunslingers" might be the coolest song ever.
-The new Thrice album is strange. Good, but strange.
-I saw 30 Days of Night this afternoon with Kristen, Henry, Missy, Steve, Jon, and Phil... It was a million times better than I thought it was going to be. The movie was actually scary and Josh Hartnett was a great Eben. It's a must go see.
-Fuck Ben Afleck for directing a movie I want to see...
I think that's all...

| » Why is the best heavy metal album I've heard in a long time by a band that isn't real? |
Steve made me a copy of the Dethklok Cd "Dethalbum" and I have to say, for a satire lovingly poking fun at the heavy metal genre, Metalocalypse has put out a pretty good record that can only be described as...well "brutal."

Oliver's son was born Oct 7th at 9:30 am. He's just under 7lbs and is named Diego Danger Cardo. He's absolutely beautiful, and I couldn't be happier for Jenn and Oliver.
The shitty part is that Oliver is getting sent to Iraq for 15 months this November. Luckily Jenn is coming home during that time. Wish them luck in bring this new life into this world...I'm sure they'll make great parents. :)

| » Hey there... |
I know it's been awhile, but after a long hiatus, I'm back with a new post.
Things between Kristen and I are going great. She just makes everyday seem to light up. It's really surreal feeling sometimes.
Last month we went on a trip to Emerald Isle, NC, which is gorgeous...who knew NC had pretty parts? We hanged out at the beach, went to the aquarium, watched Beerfest, and ate at the best New York-style pizzeria I've ever been to. The trip was a blast aside from me getting sun poisoning...yeah...that part sucked.
Lee is pretty much finished with Contract Blues #2.
My mom has taken over writing my first attempt of a novel, Sugartooth. She's doing a rewrite right now and wants to send it off to publishes sometime next year. I think it will be cool. I don't know of too many mother/son writing partners.
Work still sucks...but I recently registerd with the Board of Education to apply for financial aid so I can go back to school next fall.
The new apartment is working out just fine. It's still crazy expensive, but I just chill at home for the most part. Kirsten and I go out usually on the weekends or when someone is having a party, but most of the time people come over here to hang out.
Blair and Devin are back together...for now.
We have a cat. She's a little gray kitten named Kiora, which means "little dark one" in some fucking language...you'll have to ask Blair. She's really cute at first glance, but in reality she is all that is evil. I have the scars to prove it.
Sorry this is so choppy. A lot of shit has happened in the past 4 months...It's hard to keep my thoughts straight...I'm just usually not up and typing this early. After Kristen left for work I couldn't fall back asleep.
Anyway...I going to jump in the shower. Christopher and I are going to se Borat today before I have to go to work.
Happy late Halloween.
